There is no doubt we are all experiencing a storm in our lives and for many teachers, families, and students it has had a significant impact on their emotional and mental health. Dysregulated people dysregulate people, so finding and sharing calm in the midst of today’s chaos is a critical skill. Finding calm impacts all areas of our lives. We are not able to think clearly and rationally when we are dysregulated, and the biggest mistakes in our lives occur from the choices we make when we have lost control of our emotions. What does it mean to be emotionally hijacked? What do we do when we are emotionally hijacked? How can we prevent ourselves and others from becoming emotionally hijacked? What proactive habits and strategies can we adopt to buffer us against the stressors of today? This session covers all of that and more as we explore the brain science of emotional hijacking, awareness skills, and a variety of regulation and co-regulation skills. Join us for an extremely useful, fun, and soothing session not only for working with students, but also one you will find helpful personally, professionally, and with your loved ones.

Saturday, December 19, 2020 — 11:00AM Central / 9:00AM Pacific / 12:00PM Eastern

Though the oxygen mask analogy is often overused, for teachers, this reminder to take care of yourself first has never been more applicable than right now. Teacher Self Care is not just a hashtag or tagline, it is a necessity. We cannot give what we do not have. And with students across our country needing much more than ever before, teachers need to refill, refuel and reset. But what strategies work? Where do we start? During the final presentation in the series, we will engage in both self-reflection and group activities to explore self-care through an SEL lens in order to answer those questions. Rooted in best practice research, our activities will allow us to move from theory to action: Now that we know WHY self-care is important, WHAT do we do about it? Join us during this engaging, informative session designed to leave you with the practical takeaways you need to be your best.

Note: Sessions are not recorded. All session are live, interactive, and include calming strategies an activities.
